The 2011 action-adventure game Pandora’s Tower was first released on the Nintendo Wii. Developed by Ganbarion and published by Nintendo in Japan, it combines exploration, combat, and a time-limited story structure.
The game follows Aeron, who seeks to cure Elena after she begins transforming into a monster. To do so, he must obtain the flesh of twelve beasts from the Towers of the Scar. The player returns to Elena between expeditions, making timing and relationship choices part of the game’s design.
Pandora’s Tower uses its title as a thematic reference to the Greek myth. Its story is not a retelling of Hesiod’s narrative, and the game’s central goal is not to open a literal mythological box. The European release came in 2012, while the game was not officially released in North America. A later Wii U digital release appeared in Japan.
