On which network did Mad Men originally air?

The story behind the answer

Mad Men originally aired on AMC. The period drama premiered on July 19, 2007, as part of AMC’s effort to establish itself as a home for original scripted television.

Created by Matthew Weiner, the series follows Don Draper and the employees of the fictional Sterling Cooper advertising agency in 1960s New York. AMC broadcast all seven seasons, with the finale airing on May 17, 2015. The network is therefore the correct answer for the show’s original U.S. television run.

A common mix-up is confusing AMC with HBO or Showtime, premium networks that were associated with other acclaimed adult dramas of the same era. Weiner initially developed Mad Men for HBO, but the project ultimately found its home at AMC. The show helped transform AMC’s reputation and was followed by notable original series including Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.

Mad Men was sometimes described as AMC’s first original series, although the network had previously aired Remember WENN, a comedy-drama that ran from 1996 to 1998.
