On which island in Pearl Harbor was the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s Battleship Row located?

The story behind the answer

The U.S. Pacific Fleet’s Battleship Row was located beside Ford Island in Pearl Harbor.

Ford Island is a small island near the center of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Its southeastern shoreline provided deep-water berths where several American battleships were moored in December 1941. This area became known as Battleship Row and was one of the principal targets of the Japanese attack.

Ships attacked there included USS Arizona, USS West Virginia, USS Tennessee, USS Oklahoma, USS Maryland, and USS California. USS Arizona suffered a catastrophic magazine explosion, while USS Oklahoma capsized after repeated torpedo hits. Several other battleships were later repaired and returned to service.

Ford Island was also home to important naval aviation facilities, including Naval Air Station Ford Island. It should not be confused with Hickam Field, an Army airfield on the shore of Pearl Harbor, or with the harbor’s many separate channels and anchorages. The island remains part of Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam.
