Answer
29 October 1929
The 1929 Wall Street Crash reached its famous panic climax on 29 October 1929.
That date became known as Black Tuesday. Trading volume surged as investors rushed to sell shares, and the New York Stock Exchange recorded extraordinary losses. Black Tuesday followed Black Thursday on 24 October and Black Monday on 28 October, forming the most dramatic sequence of the crash.
The collapse followed years of heavy speculation and widespread buying on margin, in which investors borrowed money to purchase stocks. When prices fell, brokers demanded additional cash, forcing more sales and pushing prices down further.
The crash did not by itself cause the entire Great Depression, but it badly damaged confidence, wealth and financial institutions. Industrial production, employment and international trade later contracted for broader economic reasons. The market’s decline continued after October, with the Dow reaching its low in July 1932.
