On which continent are the Atlas Mountains?

The Atlas Mountains are on the continent of Africa.

This mountain system runs through the Maghreb of North Africa, chiefly across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. It forms a dramatic transition between the Sahara Desert to the south and the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastal regions to the north and west.

The range extends for roughly 2,500 kilometers and includes several connected sections, including the High Atlas, Middle Atlas, Anti-Atlas, and Tell Atlas. Its highest summit is Toubkal in Morocco, which rises to about 4,167 meters.

The Atlas Mountains are geologically younger than much of the African continental basement. Major uplift occurred as the African and Eurasian tectonic plates converged, though different sections also preserve evidence of much older geological events. The name comes from Atlas, the Titan of Greek mythology.
