Pokémon Sword and Shield were released on the Nintendo Switch.

The games launched worldwide on November 15, 2019, as the first main-series Pokémon role-playing games developed specifically for Nintendo's hybrid console. They are eighth-generation titles and take place in the Galar region, which draws inspiration from the United Kingdom.

Sword and Shield introduced the Dynamax and Gigantamax battle mechanics, allowing selected Pokémon to become enormous for limited periods. They also added the Wild Area, a large open zone with freely roaming Pokémon and changing weather conditions.

The games are sometimes confused with Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, which were also Nintendo Switch releases but were enhanced remakes connected to the original Kanto games. Sword and Shield were the first traditional new-generation main-series entries on the platform.
