On which Billboard chart did Taylor Swift’s “august” debut and peak at number five?

Taylor Swift’s “august” debuted and peaked at number five on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.

The song reached that position when Folklore was released in 2020. It remained on the chart for 20 weeks, giving the track a substantial run despite not being released as a traditional lead single.

The Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart combines activity from streaming, sales, and radio airplay for songs associated with rock and alternative formats. “august” fit the chart because its dreamy guitars, soft-rock elements, and atmospheric production were closely connected to alternative music.

This peak is easy to confuse with the song’s performance on the Billboard Hot 100, where it debuted at number 23. Those are separate charts with different genre scopes. The number-five result specifically belongs to Hot Rock & Alternative Songs.
