The United States Semiquincentennial, known as America250, will celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026.
The date marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Independence Day is observed annually on July 4 because the Declaration’s final wording was approved on that date.
America250 is the name commonly used for the national commemoration. The anniversary is also described with terms such as semiquincentennial, sestercentennial, and quarter millennium. These terms all relate to a 250-year milestone, although semiquincentennial is the most prominent official wording.
The 2026 anniversary follows the United States Bicentennial in 1976, which marked 200 years since the Declaration’s adoption. The next major anniversary of this type will be the Tricentennial in 2076.
