On what date was the special episode Gary released?

The special episode “Gary” was released on May 5, 2026.

It was a surprise release ahead of The Bear’s fifth and final season. The standalone flashback follows Richie Jerimovich and Michael “Mikey” Berzatto on a work trip from Chicago to Gary, Indiana, before the main events of the series. Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal co-wrote the episode and play Richie and Mikey.

“Gary” adds context to Richie’s memories of Mikey and explores their volatile friendship during a single emotionally charged day. Its placement outside the regular season episode run made the May 5 drop especially notable: viewers received the flashback before the final season’s June premiere.

The date can be confused with the season-five premiere, which arrived later in June 2026. It can also be confused with the following-day availability on some FX platforms. The initial surprise drop itself occurred on May 5, making that the canonical release date for the special.
