Answer
June 17, 1775
Answer
June 17, 1775
The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on June 17, 1775, during the American Revolution.
The battle took place on the Charlestown Peninsula near Boston during the Siege of Boston. Colonial forces fortified Breed’s Hill, although the engagement became known as the Battle of Bunker Hill because Bunker Hill was the original objective and a prominent nearby landmark.
British troops captured the colonial position after three assaults, making the battle a British victory. However, the British suffered heavy casualties, including more than 1,000 killed or wounded, while the colonists demonstrated that inexperienced forces could withstand attacks by regular troops.
The battle occurred before the Declaration of Independence and before the Continental Army formally developed into the national force later commanded by George Washington. Its date is sometimes confused with April 19, 1775, the date of Lexington and Concord, the first major armed clashes of the Revolution.
