Answer
August 6, 1945
The atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
A United States Army Air Forces B-29 bomber, Enola Gay, released the bomb Little Boy over Hiroshima. The attack was the first wartime use of a nuclear weapon and occurred during the final stage of the Pacific War.
The Soviet Union declared war on Japan on August 8, while the United States dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki on August 9. Japan's government then moved toward accepting the Allied surrender terms.
Hiroshima's bombing date is sometimes mixed up with the Nagasaki attack, which occurred three days later. It is also separate from August 15, the date associated with Hirohito's broadcast to the Japanese public.
