On what date was planned Operation Olympic scheduled to begin?

The story behind the answer

Planned Operation Olympic was scheduled to begin on 1 November 1945.

The date was designated X-Day for the first stage of Operation Downfall, the proposed Allied invasion of Japan. Olympic would have landed forces in southern Kyushu, captured bases and territory, and created a platform for the later Operation Coronet against the Kanto Plain near Tokyo.

The Allied timetable reflected the logistical scale of the operation. Preparations required huge quantities of landing craft, aircraft, ammunition, fuel, and medical supplies. The invasion force was expected to face Japanese troops and intense resistance, including kamikaze attacks and civilian mobilization.

Japan's surrender in August made the scheduled invasion unnecessary. Operation Coronet, the second stage of Downfall, had been tentatively scheduled for 1 March 1946 and was also canceled. These dates are sometimes confused because Olympic and Coronet were related operations but had different objectives and timetables.
