Answer
November 1, 1945
Operation Olympic, the planned invasion of Kyūshū, was scheduled to begin on November 1, 1945.
Olympic formed the first stage of Operation Downfall, the proposed Allied invasion of Japan. Its objective was to seize the southern portion of Kyūshū and establish airfields that could support the later invasion of the Kantō Plain.
The second stage, Operation Coronet, was tentatively scheduled for March 1, 1946. Coronet would have attacked the area near Tokyo, making the two operations part of a large, sequential campaign.
Neither operation took place. Japan’s surrender in August 1945 canceled the invasion plans, which had required enormous naval, air, and ground forces and were expected to cause severe casualties on both sides.
