On what date was Operation Olympic scheduled to begin against southern Kyushu?

The story behind the answer

Operation Olympic was scheduled to begin on November 1, 1945.

Olympic was the first phase of Operation Downfall, the planned Allied invasion of Japan. Its objective was southern Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's four main home islands. Allied planners expected the operation to establish bases and secure territory for a later assault.

The second phase, Operation Coronet, was scheduled for March 1, 1946, and would have targeted the Kanto Plain on Honshu. That operation also became unnecessary when Japan surrendered in August 1945.

The planned date illustrates how close Allied commanders believed a ground invasion might be. Preparations included troop allocations, amphibious vessels, air support, and casualty estimates, but the surrender changed the course of events before Olympic could begin.
