On what date was Mexican artist Frida Kahlo born?

Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacán, Mexico City.

Kahlo later gave her birth year as 1910, linking herself symbolically to the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. Official records and historical research, however, identify 1907 as her birth year. The altered date helped her present her life as belonging to revolutionary Mexico.

Her parents were photographer Guillermo Kahlo and Matilde Calderón y González. Kahlo grew up in the family home now known as Casa Azul, which became central to her life and artistic identity.

The date is sometimes confused because 1910 appears in biographies and on cultural materials. That year was Kahlo’s chosen public birth year, not the date supported by her birth records.
