On what date was Marie Curie born?

The story behind the answer

Marie Curie was born on 7 November 1867.

She was born Maria Salomea Skłodowska in Warsaw, then located in Congress Poland within the Russian Empire. She was the fifth and youngest child of teachers Bronisława and Władysław Skłodowski. Her Polish upbringing remained important to her identity even after she moved to France and became a naturalised French citizen.

Curie later studied at the University of Paris, where she met Pierre Curie. Together they investigated radioactivity, a term she helped establish, and discovered the elements polonium and radium. Her achievements made her the first woman to win a Nobel Prize; she later became the first person to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields.

The date is sometimes confused with dates associated with her marriage, discoveries, or death. She married Pierre in 1895, announced polonium in 1898, and died on 4 July 1934. Her birth date, however, is 7 November 1867.
