On what date was Game Freak incorporated, linking it to Pokémon's early history?
Answer
April 26, 1989
Answer
April 26, 1989
Game Freak was incorporated on April 26, 1989.
The company grew from Game Freak, a self-published video game magazine created by Satoshi Tajiri. Tajiri and illustrator Ken Sugimori transformed that magazine project into a development company, retaining the same name. Game Freak later became the developer of Pokémon.
Before Pokémon, the studio worked on games including Quinty, which Namco published in 1989 under the title Mendel Palace in North America. That earlier experience helped establish the small team that would eventually tackle Pokémon's unusually ambitious collection, trading, and battle systems.
Game Freak is not the same organization as Nintendo or The Pokémon Company. Game Freak developed the main Pokémon video games, Nintendo published them, and The Pokémon Company manages much of the broader brand. April 26, 1989 marks the studio's formal incorporation, not Pokémon's game debut.
