Downton Abbey: A New Era was released in the United Kingdom on 29 April 2022. It is the second feature film continuation of the television drama, following the 2019 film Downton Abbey.

The release date changed during the film’s development. It was initially planned for December 2021, then moved to 18 March 2022 before settling on 29 April in the UK. The film premiered at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on 25 April 2022, a few days before its general British release.

The North American release came later, on 20 May 2022, which explains why several dates can appear in entertainment listings. The story is set in 1928 and divides the Crawley family between two major events: a journey to a villa in the south of France and the arrival of a film crew at Downton Abbey.

Simon Curtis directed the film from a screenplay by Julian Fellowes. Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, and other principal cast members returned.
