On what date was Diablo III released for Windows?

The story behind the answer

Diablo III was released for Windows on May 15, 2012.

Blizzard Entertainment launched the action role-playing game nearly twelve years after Diablo II, making it one of the most anticipated PC games of its era. The release took place in North America, Europe, South Korea, and other regions, with localized availability expanding afterward.

The date is sometimes confused with Diablo III’s later console launches. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions arrived in September 2013, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions followed in 2014 as part of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition. Diablo III also eventually came to Nintendo Switch in 2018.

The Windows launch introduced players to the game’s five original classes: Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Witch Doctor, and Wizard. The Crusader was added later in the Reaper of Souls expansion, released in 2014.
