On what date was Apollo XXI released?

The story behind the answer

Apollo XXI was released on May 24, 2019.

It is Steve Lacy’s debut studio album, issued through his own Three Quarter imprint in partnership with AWAL. Lacy wrote and produced the album, which blends alternative R&B, funk, pop, indie rock, and lo-fi textures. The project was recorded between 2017 and 2019 at Paramore Palace.

The album followed Steve Lacy’s Demo, his breakthrough 2017 song series, and was preceded by the singles “N Side,” “Playground,” and “Hate CD.” Its release marked Lacy’s move from acclaimed guitarist and producer with the Internet into a fully established solo artist.

Apollo XXI is also notable for its personal subject matter. Several songs explore Lacy’s sexuality and coming-out experience, giving the album an unusually intimate perspective. Critics widely praised its cohesive, self-produced sound, and it earned a nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
