America's 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, falls on July 4, 2026.
The date marks the 250th anniversary of the Second Continental Congress approving the Declaration of Independence in 1776. July 4 is celebrated as Independence Day because Congress approved the Declaration's final text on that date.
The anniversary is sometimes described as the United States Semiquincentennial. The word refers to a 250-year anniversary, although “America250” is the more accessible public branding for the nationwide commemoration.
A common mix-up is July 2, 1776. Congress approved the Lee Resolution declaring independence on July 2, while the Declaration explaining that decision was approved on July 4. The signed parchment was mostly signed later, primarily on August 2.
