On what date in 1945 was the second atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan?

The story behind the answer

The second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, on August 9, 1945.

The United States Army Air Forces used the B-29 bomber Bockscar to drop a plutonium implosion weapon called Fat Man. The bomb detonated at 11:02 a.m. local time over Nagasaki, an important industrial and military center on Kyushu.

The bombing occurred three days after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and on the same day that Soviet forces began their invasion of Japanese-held Manchuria. These rapidly unfolding events intensified pressure on Japan’s leaders to end the war.

Nagasaki was not the original target that morning. Kokura was designated as the primary target, but cloud cover and smoke prevented accurate visual bombing, so the crew proceeded to Nagasaki. The formal surrender was signed several weeks later, on September 2, 1945, aboard USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
