On what date did the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising begin in 1943?

The story behind the answer

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began on 19 April 1943, when Jewish resistance fighters attacked German forces entering the ghetto on the eve of Passover.

The uprising followed the mass deportation of most Warsaw Jews to the Treblinka extermination camp during the summer of 1942. Remaining residents built bunkers and organized armed groups, including the Jewish Combat Organization and the Jewish Military Union.

German and collaborating forces eventually destroyed the ghetto, using fire and explosives to force people from hiding. The fighting ended in May 1943, although isolated resistance continued briefly. The uprising is distinct from the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, which involved the city’s broader Polish resistance movement.
