The United States Army marked its 250th anniversary on June 14, 2025.
The date corresponds to June 14, 1775, when the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The modern United States Army traces its institutional lineage to that force, making its anniversary one year before the nation’s own July 4, 2026 semiquincentennial.
A large Army birthday parade and celebration took place in Arlington, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The event included soldiers, historic uniforms, military vehicles, aircraft, horses, parachutists, bands, and a fireworks display. It was described as a “soft launch” of broader America250-related celebrations.
June 14 is also Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the first U.S. flag resolution in 1777. The Army anniversary and Flag Day therefore share the same annual date, though they recognize different historical events.
