On what date did the Treaty of Paris officially ending the American Revolutionary War get signed?

The story behind the answer

The Treaty of Paris officially ending the American Revolutionary War was signed on September 3, 1783.

Representatives of Great Britain and the United States signed the treaty in Paris. Britain recognized the thirteen former colonies as free, sovereign, and independent states, formally acknowledging the new nation’s independence.

The American negotiators were Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, and Henry Laurens. David Hartley signed for Great Britain on behalf of King George III.

The treaty is often confused with the British surrender at Yorktown on October 19, 1781. Yorktown was a decisive military victory, but the war formally ended through the later peace settlement. Congress ratified the treaty on January 14, 1784.
