On what date did the Nintendo Switch launch worldwide?

The Nintendo Switch launched worldwide on March 3, 2017.

Nintendo introduced the Switch as a hybrid game system that could function as a home console connected to a television or as a portable device. Its tablet-like main unit uses detachable Joy-Con controllers, allowing several play configurations.

The launch date followed a January 2017 presentation that revealed the system's price, software lineup, and hardware features. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launched on the same day for both Switch and Wii U, giving the new console a major first-party title.

The Switch's launch date is sometimes confused with later hardware revisions. The Switch Lite arrived in September 2019, while the OLED model launched in October 2021. Those are members of the Switch family, but neither represents the original worldwide launch.
