On what date did the New York Stock Exchange's 1929 crash begin with Black Thursday?

The story behind the answer

The New York Stock Exchange's 1929 crash began with Black Thursday on October 24, 1929.

On that day, heavy selling pushed stock prices sharply downward in New York. The market stabilized temporarily after major bankers bought leading shares, but the apparent recovery did not end the crisis. Selling returned the following week, including Black Monday on October 28 and Black Tuesday on October 29.

The crash followed years of speculative buying, widespread use of borrowed money, and rapid expansion in share prices during the 1920s. It did not by itself cause the entire Great Depression, but it severely damaged confidence and helped worsen the economic downturn.

Black Thursday is sometimes confused with Black Tuesday because October 29 produced the most famous panic and one of the largest trading volumes of the period. The 1929 crash was a US market event with consequences that spread internationally.
