The first episode of Twin Peaks aired in the United States on April 8, 1990.
The premiere introduced the fictional Washington town, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, and the mystery surrounding Laura Palmer’s death. ABC broadcast the series, which was created by David Lynch and Mark Frost.
The premiere is often called the pilot. It established the show’s mixture of murder mystery, surrealism, soap opera, comedy, and supernatural horror. A separate international version of the pilot included additional footage and a different conclusion, which can cause confusion when viewers compare releases.
Twin Peaks became a major television cult hit despite its unusual tone. Its first season consisted of eight episodes, while the original run continued into a second season before the 1992 prequel film and the 2017 revival.
