On what date did the 1929 Wall Street Crash's biggest sell-off occur, known as Black Tuesday?

The story behind the answer

The biggest sell-off of the 1929 Wall Street Crash occurred on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday.

Investors sold roughly 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange that day, setting a trading-volume record that stood for decades. The panic followed earlier collapses on Black Thursday, October 24, and Black Monday, October 28.

The crash did not single-handedly cause the Great Depression, but it destroyed wealth, damaged confidence, and intensified a broader economic downturn. Bank failures, falling industrial production, debt problems, and weak demand were also major factors.

Black Tuesday is sometimes confused with Black Thursday, the first major panic day of the episode. The two names refer to different dates in the same 1929 market collapse.
