On what date did the 1929 Wall Street Crash reach its notorious Black Tuesday sell-off?

The story behind the answer

The 1929 Wall Street Crash reached its notorious Black Tuesday sell-off on October 29, 1929.

Black Tuesday followed Black Thursday on October 24 and Black Monday on October 28. On October 29, investors traded millions of shares as fear spread that stock prices had risen far beyond the real value of many companies. Heavy selling overwhelmed the market and accelerated the collapse of the speculative boom.

The crash did not cause the entire Great Depression by itself, but it severely damaged confidence, reduced wealth, and weakened businesses and banks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average had already fallen sharply before Black Tuesday and continued declining afterward. A common mix-up is treating October 29 as the beginning of the crash; the major Wall Street decline unfolded over several trading days and ultimately continued into 1932.
