Answer
October 12, 2013
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y launched worldwide on October 12, 2013.
These sixth-generation role-playing games were developed by Game Freak for the Nintendo 3DS. Their worldwide launch was a major change for the main series, which had traditionally received releases in Japan before other regions. Players in multiple territories could begin their Kalos-region journeys on the same date.
Pokémon X and Y introduced fully polygonal 3D presentation to the main series, along with the Fairy type, Mega Evolution, trainer customization, Sky Battles, and Horde Encounters. The games also added 72 new Pokémon species, including the legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal.
The games were announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata during a Pokémon Direct presentation on January 8, 2013. Their simultaneous release helped make the sixth generation one of the franchise’s most globally coordinated launches and established a model later used by other main-series Pokémon games.
