On what date did India ban PUBG Mobile?

India banned PUBG Mobile on September 2, 2020. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology included it in a wider order targeting 118 mobile applications.

The government cited concerns that the apps were allegedly collecting and transmitting user data in an unauthorized way to servers outside India. The order came during heightened tensions between India and China in 2020 and used Section 69A of the Information Technology Act.

The ban date is different from the later service shutdown: Tencent announced that PUBG Mobile services for Indian users would cease on October 31, 2020. Krafton later prepared an India-specific successor, Battlegrounds Mobile India, which introduced changes such as localized branding and additional restrictions for younger players.
