On what date did heavy selling produce the 1929 Wall Street day called Black Tuesday?

The story behind the answer

Black Tuesday, the most famous selling day of the 1929 Wall Street Crash, occurred on October 29, 1929.

On that Tuesday, about 16 million shares changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange, a record at the time. Prices fell sharply as investors rushed to sell, following major declines on Black Thursday and Black Monday. The selling reflected excessive speculation, purchases made with borrowed money, and weakening economic conditions.

Black Tuesday did not instantly cause the entire Great Depression, but it became its best-known financial symbol. Industrial production, employment, bank stability, and international trade deteriorated over the following years.

Black Thursday refers to October 24, while Black Monday refers to October 28. Those labels are separate from Black Tuesday, October 29, a distinction often lost in simplified accounts of the crash.
