Elon Musk ranked second on Forbes’ 2024 World’s Billionaires list, behind Bernard Arnault.
Forbes published the annual list in April 2024, valuing fortunes using stock prices and exchange rates from March 8, 2024. Musk’s wealth was linked mainly to Tesla, SpaceX and his other private-company holdings.
The ranking is a snapshot rather than a permanent league table. Musk’s position changed sharply in later Forbes updates as Tesla’s share price and the estimated value of SpaceX moved. This is why a person’s place on one annual list should not be confused with their real-time Forbes profile.
Musk had previously topped Forbes’ annual billionaire ranking, but the 2024 edition placed Bernard Arnault first and Musk second.
