On 24 October 1929, which Wall Street crash day is commonly called Black Thursday?

The story behind the answer

24 October 1929, the first major collapse day of the Wall Street Crash, is commonly called Black Thursday.

Panic selling caused about 12.9 million shares to change hands on the New York Stock Exchange, then a record. Prices fell sharply, although a group of prominent bankers temporarily supported the market by buying shares. That intervention helped stabilize trading for a time, but it did not end the broader crisis.

Black Thursday is often confused with Black Tuesday, 29 October 1929, when roughly 16 million shares traded and the decline became even more dramatic. The crash did not by itself create every condition of the Great Depression, but it greatly damaged confidence and exposed weaknesses in the financial system. The market continued falling after both famous dates.
