Niklas Edin was the flag bearer for what nation at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games?

The story behind the answer

Niklas Edin was the flag bearer for Sweden at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The Swedish curler led his country’s delegation during the opening ceremony in Pyeongchang, South Korea, on February 9, 2018.

Edin was a fitting choice because he was already one of curling’s leading figures. He skipped Sweden’s men’s team, alongside Oskar Eriksson, Rasmus Wranå, Christoffer Sundgren, and reserve Henrik Leek. That team went on to win the Olympic silver medal, losing the final to the United States rink skipped by John Shuster.

The flag-bearer role is ceremonial and does not necessarily indicate that the athlete is the country’s team captain across every sport. Edin’s position as curling skip and his international achievements made him a prominent representative of Sweden. He later completed his Olympic medal collection with gold at the 2022 Winter Games and had previously won bronze in 2014.
