Major League Baseball’s Roger Clemens played the position of pitcher. A right-handed starting pitcher, Clemens spent 24 seasons in MLB and became one of the most accomplished—and controversial—arms in baseball history.

Clemens made his major-league debut with the Boston Red Sox in 1984 and later pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Houston Astros. He won seven Cy Young Awards, the most in MLB history at the time, and captured two World Series championships with the Yankees. His career totals included 354 wins and 4,672 strikeouts.

“Pitcher” is the canonical answer even though pitchers can be described more specifically as starters or relievers. Clemens was overwhelmingly a starter: he made nearly all of his appearances in that role rather than as a late-inning relief pitcher.
