Lithuania borders what body of water?

Lithuania borders the Baltic Sea. The country occupies the southeastern shore of the Baltic, giving it a maritime outlet in northern Europe.

Lithuania’s main seaport is Klaipėda, located near the mouth of the Curonian Lagoon. The lagoon is separated from the open sea by the Curonian Spit, a long, narrow sand peninsula shared by Lithuania and Russia’s Kaliningrad region. This geography gives Lithuania both an exposed Baltic coastline and sheltered lagoon waters.

Lithuania is one of the three Baltic states, alongside Latvia and Estonia, but each has a different coastline and geography. Lithuania shares land borders with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast. Its coastline is relatively short compared with many European countries, yet the port at Klaipėda is important for trade and transport.

A common mix-up is calling the Curonian Lagoon the sea. It is a lagoon connected to the Baltic Sea, not a separate sea bordering Lithuania. The Baltic Sea itself is the canonical answer.
