Lake Titicaca lies on the border of Peru and which other country?

The story behind the answer

Lake Titicaca lies on the border of Peru and Bolivia.

The lake occupies the northern Altiplano, a high plateau in the central Andes. Its western side lies in Peru’s Puno Region, while its eastern side lies in Bolivia’s La Paz Department. The international boundary crosses the lake, making it a shared natural feature rather than a lake belonging entirely to one country.

Titicaca is often described as the world’s highest navigable lake, at an elevation of about 3,812 meters. It has two main basins connected by the Strait of Tiquina: the larger Lago Grande and the smaller Wiñaymarka. Water leaves mainly through the Desaguadero River, although evaporation accounts for most water loss.

A common mix-up is placing the lake in Chile because the Altiplano extends toward Chilean territory. Chile does not border Titicaca. The lake is also culturally important, especially in Aymara and Inca traditions, and includes islands such as Isla del Sol.
