Keyshia Cole channeled “Jerry Maguire” with her 2009 single “You Complete Me.” The title echoes the famous romantic line from the 1996 film, in which Jerry Maguire tells Dorothy Boyd, “You complete me.”

The song was released on January 20, 2009, as the second single from Cole’s third studio album, A Different Me. Cole co-wrote it with songwriter and producer Theron Feemster, while Ron Fair and Feemster handled production.

“You Complete Me” became a strong R&B hit. It reached number seven on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and number 62 on the Billboard Hot 100. It followed Cole’s previous single, “Playa Cardz Right,” and helped extend her run of successful R&B releases.

The common mix-up is confusing the song with the film quote itself or assuming it was the album’s title track. A Different Me is the album; “You Complete Me” is the single named after the memorable movie phrase.
