Jennifer Lawrence has a hand tattoo reminding her to drink water. The small marking reads “H2O,” the chemical formula for water, and represents the hydration reminder she said she would always need.
Lawrence explained that she got the tattoo while spending time with Liam Hemsworth's family, when several people were getting tattoos. She chose H2O because she wanted a reminder to stay hydrated. The tattoo was deliberately subtle and close to her skin tone rather than a dramatic piece of body art.
The tattoo also became famous for a scientific typographical mistake: Lawrence acknowledged that the “2” was placed high instead of low as a subscript. The correct chemical notation is H₂O, but the meaning is still clear. Water consists of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom.
