Ivory Coast is located on which continent?
Answer
Africa
Answer
Africa
Ivory Coast is located on the continent of Africa, specifically in West Africa along the Gulf of Guinea.
Also called Côte d’Ivoire, the country occupies part of Africa’s southern Atlantic coast. It borders Liberia and Guinea to the west, Mali and Burkina Faso to the north, Ghana to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. Its political capital is Yamoussoukro, while Abidjan is the largest city and major economic center.
The name Ivory Coast reflects the region’s historic trade in elephant ivory. European merchants used related names for different sections of the West African coast, including the Gold Coast for present-day Ghana and the Pepper Coast for present-day Liberia.
Ivory Coast became independent from France on August 7, 1960. It is especially known for cocoa production and remains one of the world’s leading cocoa-producing countries. A common mix-up is placing it in Central Africa; geographically, it is firmly part of West Africa.
