Into which sea does the Nile River flow?
Answer
Mediterranean Sea
Answer
Mediterranean Sea
The Nile River flows northward into the Mediterranean Sea.
The river forms a large delta on Egypt’s northern coast before reaching the Mediterranean. The Nile Delta is one of the world’s major agricultural regions and has supported dense settlement for thousands of years.
The Nile’s two principal tributaries are the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile rises in the Lake Victoria region, while the Blue Nile begins at Lake Tana in Ethiopia. They meet at Khartoum in Sudan, and the combined river continues north through Egypt.
The Nile has long been central to Egyptian civilization, providing water, transport, fertile soil, and seasonal flooding. The Aswan High Dam, completed in the 1960s, greatly altered the river’s natural flood cycle and created Lake Nasser. The Red Sea lies east of Egypt but is not the Nile’s outlet.
