The Porsche Cayman GT4 was introduced in 2015.
It was the first Porsche GT sports car based on the Cayman, bringing motorsport-derived hardware to the mid-engine coupe. Porsche unveiled the car in early 2015 and scheduled its world premiere for the Geneva International Motor Show in March. The model combined a 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six derived from the 991 Carrera S with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The GT4 was more than a cosmetic package. Its chassis sat 30 millimetres lower, while brakes and suspension components were adapted from the 991-generation 911 GT3. A fixed rear wing, revised front bumper and additional aerodynamic work helped create downforce at both axles. Porsche quoted a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes 40 seconds.
People sometimes confuse the launch year with the later 718 Cayman GT4, which arrived after Porsche shifted the Cayman name into the 718 family. The original 981 Cayman GT4 belongs to the 2015–2016 period and was offered as a focused, manual-transmission performance special.
