The first Harry Potter film based on J.K. Rowling’s books was released in 2001.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premiered in London on 4 November 2001 and entered general release later that month. Warner Bros. produced the film, which adapted the first novel in Rowling’s series.
The movie introduced the principal film cast, including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. It also featured established actors such as Richard Harris as Albus Dumbledore, Alan Rickman as Severus Snape, and Maggie Smith as Minerva McGonagall.
The film became a major commercial success and began an eight-film adaptation series. The final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, was released in 2011, completing the main story on screen a decade after the first movie appeared.
