In which year did Uruguay host and win the first FIFA World Cup?

The story behind the answer

Uruguay hosted and won the first FIFA World Cup in 1930. The tournament took place from 13 to 30 July in Montevideo, and Uruguay defeated Argentina 4–2 in the final.

Thirteen teams entered the inaugural competition, including seven from South America, four from Europe, and two from North America. Uruguay received the hosting rights partly because it had recently celebrated the centenary of its constitution and had a strong football tradition.

The 1930 final was played at Estadio Centenario, which was built for the tournament. Uruguay later won the World Cup again in 1950, defeating Brazil in the decisive match at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium.
