Garry Marshall’s film New Year’s Eve premiered in 2011.
The romantic comedy was released in the United States on December 9, 2011. It follows several interconnected stories unfolding in New York City as characters prepare for New Year’s Eve. The ensemble cast includes Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Jon Bon Jovi, Ashton Kutcher, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Robert De Niro.
The film was designed as a companion to Marshall’s earlier holiday ensemble movie Valentine’s Day, released in 2010. Like that film, it uses multiple storylines and a large cast to connect personal relationships through a shared calendar event.
New Year’s Eve was filmed partly in New York, but production also used Los Angeles locations. It is easy to confuse the movie’s release year with the year shown in its countdown setting: the story centers on the transition into 2012, while the film itself premiered in 2011.
