In which year did Portugal win the European Championship with Ronaldo?

The story behind the answer

Portugal won the European Championship with Ronaldo in 2016. The tournament was UEFA Euro 2016, held in France, and Portugal defeated the hosts in the final.

Portugal reached the final despite drawing all three group matches. In the knockout phase, Fernando Santos’s team eliminated Croatia, Poland and Wales before meeting France at the Stade de France on 10 July 2016.

Ronaldo started the final as captain but left injured in the first half after a challenge from Dimitri Payet. He continued encouraging his teammates from the touchline, while Éder scored the decisive goal in extra time for a 1–0 victory.

The triumph was Portugal’s first major men’s international trophy. It is often confused with Euro 2004, when Portugal reached the final but lost to Greece. Portugal later won the 2019 UEFA Nations League, another title associated with Ronaldo but not a European Championship.
