J.K. Rowling launched the Pottermore website in 2011.
Pottermore was announced in 2011 as an interactive online destination for Harry Potter readers. It combined information about the books with digital features, including sorting users into Hogwarts houses, assigning wands, and offering new writing by Rowling. The site later became a major official hub for the wizarding world.
The public website opened in stages rather than becoming fully available to everyone immediately. An early registration period created a large amount of attention, and the site’s first experiences were designed around the seven original novels. Rowling contributed background material that expanded details about characters, places, and wizarding customs.
The brand was later renamed Wizarding World, reflecting a wider collection of films and related productions. That later name can cause confusion when identifying the launch date. Pottermore belongs specifically to the 2011 digital launch, while Wizarding World is the later umbrella branding used for the broader franchise.
