Dragons' Den first aired in Canada on CBC in 2006.
The Canadian series adapted the established Dragons' Den format for Canadian entrepreneurs. Founders present businesses to a panel of wealthy investors, known as Dragons, and negotiate for capital and expertise in return for an ownership stake.
CBC became the home of the Canadian edition, distinguishing it from the BBC’s British programme. Although the structure and title are closely related, the investors, entrepreneurs and deals belong to the Canadian business environment.
The Canadian launch is also separate from the later American series Shark Tank. These programmes share the broader international format lineage, but their premiere dates and broadcasters are different.
